Elves are in form quite like humans, though they are often rather taller. Elves are immortal and therefore immune to disease, aging, decay, etc. They can be killed; things that kill Men, such as high falls, knives, spears, arrows, etc. will kill an Elf. They are inherently Light and good, though there are Dark Elves - they are, however, classified as a separate species. Elves love the skies, especially the moon and stars. They have no religion, but they have ancient tales of the moon and stars.
There are three different kinds of Elves.
High Elves are tall, with pale blonde hair and fair skin. Their eyes are often blue but may also be green, grey, or brown, though brown is very rare. They are the most ancient of the Elves, the most skilled. They are the most refined, the aristocrats. One social rule they uphold, and in which they differ from Wood or Cavern Elves, is their careful masking of emotion. To show emotion in your voice or facial expression is considered rude or ill-bred at most times. They do not care for other species, especially Men and Dwarves, and are seldom seen, except in battle. They are the most proficient in battle and though they do not like to kill, they are efficient in doing so.
Wood Elves are smaller than High Elves, and vary greatly. They are often colored very like the woods in which they live, with green and brown eyes and often with green streaks through their hair. Their skin is usually darker than that of the High Elves, more woodsy colored. They are wilder, less formal, less grave. They are the expert hunters and trackers and seldom live in one place for long; many live a life of wandering, sleeping and living where they will. They take more easily to other races, and sometimes live for short times in Men's towns and villages. They are fighters but prefer to be elusive rather than offensive, fighting when they must and passing it by with a blind eye otherwise.
Cavern Elves are about the size of Wood Elves, and they have fair skin like the High Elves have; but their hair is almost always dark. They have large eyes and skilled hands and live underground. They are fonder of wine than their above-ground cousins, and they hold great feasts under the mountains. They mine, creating halls of the living veins of precious metals and stones. They do not live always below ground; they surface often; but their homes are beneath the mountains.
