If anybody comes on and notices that a lot of these look pretty nearly word-for-word like Casty's FP rules, yeah. Some of them are. I give full credit for any of those rules to Casty, including the many that I paraphrased.
First of all, you DO have to read these. That is the first rule. You might get bored - I'm sorry. Even if you just skim, there are things that you will need to know and will be expected to know. You will be expected to follow the rules and, to be entirely honest, this is not a democracy. I am the admin and Waggy is co-admin, and we are in charge. Sorry. We try to be fair and nice to everyone and if you have a problem, PM one of us. We will listen and do our best to be nice about it.
I will freely admit to having borrowed these from Casty.
No spamming/flooding the C-box
No role playing inside C-box
IPs can be seen, so don't pretend to be someone else
Use decent grammar and punctuation
Respect other members, which includes no fighting
Do not advertise or mention other forums - there is an affiliates board and you can advertise there. Exception is making your name a link - go for it.
Please limit your games and playfights in the C-box. They are fine and peachy and wonderful, but they get annoying when you do that constantly
Signatures should be less than 540 in width, less than 300 in height, and unanimated. Once you've been through the roleplay training and have created a character, it would be very nice indeed if your siggie matched your name somehow.
We claim none of the images found on the internet as our own, just as a disclaimer here, and on that subject, no stealing. No stealing someone else's poetry, names, roleplaying, stories, pictures, etc. etc. etc. unless you have specific permission to use that particular bit of creativity.
No hot linking. This is taking an image off of a real site may it be .com, .org, or anything like that, and using its original URL to make the image show up. For example, if this site was wanderingsecret.net, and we had a way rad image of a dragon and you put wanderingsecret.net/dragonimage.gif for the image, it costs money to the person already paying for the site. So don't do it. AT ALL. It doesn't take that much effort to upload the image to photobucket or another site like that.
Don't steal names. Your names should come directly out of your own lil ol' head unless you have come to me with the name and recieved permission to use it. (This refers to names out of books or movies, not names you have stolen from someone else.) If you aren't great with names or want help, feel free to post in the OOC chats that you need help with a name, but make sure you have permission to use whatever name you take.
No spamming the role play boards, no chatspeak, no swearing (see above rule for exceptions). No god modeling: making your character stronger for personal gain (unless its part of some predeterminded plot,) or making the character immortal (exceptions being naturally immortal creatures). No power playing without permission of the other character's roleplayer (unless the character is unconscious or you have some sort of authority over them. If you have questions about whether you have this authority, you probaby don't, but check with your Guild.) No killing anyone's characters without permission. Don't describe mating, unless over PM. It's pointless and may offend someone. Length - you need to post at least ten lines and that is going VERY low. Throw in lots of adjectives or whatever but post a decent length. In order to reduce confusion, Dwarves, Men, Wizards, Mages, etc. are mortal. Elves, Dryads, spirits, etc. are immortal - they can be killed or commit suicide but will not die a natural death and stay perpetually young. If your character is of an obscure race and there is no set standard already, you may mark in your bio whether they are immortal or mortal.
Do not post multiple threads discussing or generally about the same topic. Do not spam or use chat speak except for some very generally recognized terms such as lol, ttyl, and brb - but please use these with extreme moderation. They get very irritating. LOL, just for all of your information, is not a filler for when you cannot come up with anything better to say. Do not format your posts with colours. Not everyone has the same default skin, and a perfectly visible oolour on yours may be dreadfully hurtful or invisible to their eyes. You can change font sizes and bold things, etc, but no colours. Exception is the glow - you can use that and if you use it, you may use a weird colour as well. Try not to make pages side scroll (by keeping images smalling than 550). Don't advertise other websites - that is what the Affiliates/Advertisements boards are for.
For obvious reasons, please do not tell things like phone numbers, full names, home address, etc. If you want to do that outside of the site, I have no part in it, but not on the site. Anyone found requesting personal information from someone will be immediately banned. No questions asked. First names are ok - if you want to. Do not feel like you have to share anything you don't want to.
Biographies need to have a minimum of 5 sentences in appearance and 6 in personality, and that is a bare minimum. We would like more. Any bios or posts that do not comply with these rules will be copied to a PM and deleted. Any one-lined bios or posts will be deleted immediately and without warning. Dialogue goes in "quotations" and thoughts or dreams go in italics. /this/ is not italics - we have a button; use it. There should not be anything bold or underlined in a post. If you feel you really must emphasize some word or other, use italics, but please be reasonable with them; they get old if you use them too much. As I said before, no colours. There should also be no smileys in roleplays or bios. Besides that, you may format your bio however you like, but leave it readable and easy to handle, please.
[glow=red,2,300]Bio Format:[/glow]
Name:
Race/Species:
Age:
Kin:
Gender:
Guild:
Status:
Appearance:
Belongings:
Personality:
History:
Other:
Description:
Name: This is your character's name, obviously. Keep it fantasy, please - that is what this site is about. We don't want it to be your nickname, your real name, your middle name, or anything pertaining to the modern world. This is fantasy, set a long long time ago. Please keep it that way. Please keep names relatively short. If you like a first, middle, and surname, you can, but try to limit it to that. If you have a long or hyphenated name, you may put a nickname in parentheses.
Race/Species: What is your character? Elf, human, dwarf, werewolf, gryphon? Please no gods or goddesses. If you choose a race that is particularly obscure, you can put a deffinition or explanation in parentheses.
Age: This will be your character's age. If you have an immortal character or one whose race lives for a very long time compared to humans, the assumption will be that they appear to be about 20 years old, unless you specifically say otherwise.
Kin:
Gender:
Guild:
Status: Guild status - see wanderingsecret.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=needtoknow&action=display&thread=55 for a general idea of statuses; visit your guild's Ranks page (under the Status subboard of the guild) for a more complete listing and descriptions.
Appearance: This needs to be at least 4 lines long after it's been posted - you'll notice the lines are shorter in the little box while you're typing it. I'd figure go for 10 or 15 lines in the box. Go as detailed as you like here, keep it appropriate. Also, if your character shifts forms - an animagus or something like that - please describe what their other form looks like here.
Belongings: Does your character carry any weapons or talismans or wear any jewelry? You should put whatever you mean to put down about what your character usually wears in the way of clothing here as well. Be creative
Personality: This should be at the very least 5 lines. This and the appearance are the most important parts of the bio - personality more than appearance. Be very detailed and specific.
History: Who is your character's family? What is their past?
Other: Anything else about your character that you need to put goes here. Special abilities, special traits that might be important to the plot, personal mysteries or hates, and if your character has family, that should also go here.
[glow=red,2,300]How to join a Guild[/glow] - I know that question will be asked. Go on the guild you would like to join and post your character bio, with your character's name as the subject, on the guild's CHARACTERS sub-board. If it is not accepted, there will be real reasons of which you will be informed, and the guild-master cannot refuse you unless the reasons have been discussed and approved with/by both Waggy and me. Your bio must be approved by the guildmaster or by an admin before you begin roleplaying with the character.
[glow=red,2,300]Outlander Bios:[/glow]
Outlanders are those who are not in a guild. There are loners, who are just people who happen to be out on their own instead of ina guild; there are rogues, who are fairly evil-ish and tend to kill the people they come across - they are rather like bandits or highwaymen; and there are rangers, who are much more complicated and for whom there is a better description elsewhere.
These will be almost exactly the same as the other bios, with a few modifications: Under GUILD put Outlander, and under STATUS put whether your outlander is a loner, rogue, or ranger. If they have a specific location where they usually are at, please put that under Other, but it is not necessary.
Shard Rules:
First of all, you DO have to read these. That is the first rule. You might get bored - I'm sorry. Even if you just skim, there are things that you will need to know and will be expected to know. THIS ONE IS IMPORTANT:
this is a commitment. If you are gonna be on here, taking up our time and mental/emotional effort and energy, you need to be here. No absentee family members here; I want you all to commit to posting at least once a week unless you are gone, in which case you must say so on the "Comings and Goings" board, or have another dang good reason, which you'd better tell me. Yes, this is a rule. Yes, it does include everyone. Yes, Lighty, that means you.
[glow=red,2,300]Penalties[/glow] for breaking the rules go something along these lines:
First offense: You will get a warning.
Second offense: You will be suspended for 24 hours.
Third offense: You will be banned for a longer period of time, and that may vary depending on what rule you've been breaking and how much it's ticking me off.
Fourth offense: You will be banned. If you can remember someone's email, you can get in contact with us and try to persuade us to let you back on - it might work.
[glow=red,2,300]RESPECT[/glow] - this is a big issue for me. Everyone on here should be able to act like a mature adult (relatively speaking, of course.) Be polite to the other members. If you have personal issues with someone, PM each other or email, but don't argue in public - this includes the C-box. Nobody else wants to deal with it. No bullying; just be polite to people, k? Absolutely no swearing - it's unnecessary, and it's one of my pet peeves. I retain the right to modify or delete anything that I find offensive or that someone mentions to me as being offensive, and I will let you know you it doesn't take you by surprise. This might or might not be classified as a first-offense warning, depending on the nature of what you wrote. Only exception to this rule is in character - some characters may be swearing-types by personality or whatever - keep it to a minimum and don't use the F-bomb; I don't like it.
This probably shouldn't need to be here, but it has cropped up and therefore is an issue to be dealt with: your characters are all expected to be straight. If you are gay, that's just peachy - keep it to yourself. I don't want to know and neither does anyone else on here, unless you feel like PMing or emailing.
