The Stone was broken; its power was crushed and utterly destroyed - or so they all believed. In the aftermath of the world's ravage, guilds were formed - bands of people of all species drawing together for survival and protection - for there is safety in numbers. But darkness was growing. With civilization set hundreds of years back, the world was a harsh, difficult place, and evil was spreading. Pockets of it began, like cancerous rot, growing and spreading outward from small objects of power, emanating raw evil - shards of stone buried in the ground or hidden beneath the rushing waters of rivers. Even Light creatures near these hidden shards were contaminated, slowly corrupted by exposure to their evil magic. Dark creatures grew darker, crueller - and cleverer.
It was an oracle of PaleMoon guild who first sang the prophecy:
//And here will be the prophecy, if I ever get it written to my satisfaction; basically that a shard of evil will be found and the world will all go to smash, but someone will stop it. Yeah. Pretty much.//
And it was Laewenna, the guildmaster of PaleMoon guild, who first found the evil shard of stone and took it to the deep caves to be sealed by her people's magic, isolated where its darkness could not spread outward, until the One would come to destroy it.
DarkRowan guild was growing in power; its corrupt and power-greedy master was delving ever deeper into secrets that no-one should ever know. It was he, by his dark arts, who discovered that a shard had been recovered. Ever enemies with SilverShadow guild, he was certain they had the shard and set about to wage war on them, to overcome them, to destroy them utterly, and to take from them the object of unspeakable evil power.
SilverShadow guild fought their ever-ongoing war with DarkRowan guild and all Dark creatures, oblivious to the deadly drama underway in the world, oblivious to the evil power of the shards, oblivious to the object encased in the depths of the Elven caverns.
One SilverShadow Wood-Elf lived too long near a shard; corrupted, twisted, and darkened inside, he now fought against them, a traitor to his guild, murdering and lying and passing information to DarkRowan guild's master.
There is the stage set. Three guildmasters fighting for their guilds and their lives, one traitor fighting against his guild, three warriors prophecied to fight for the Light and defeat the Dark, three warriors prophecied to fight for the Dark and defeat the Light, one Deliverer prophecied to fight for the Light and save the world - and one who may not be all he seems.
